Midtown Eats- yeah babe!

I went to this new restaurant in town. I heard the owner of the restaurant also owns Soup, which is another amazing restaurant in town.
The result? I loved it!!!!! They have one of the best meals I have had in Reno.
There are amazing menu for cocktails and wine as well.
I had green salad and fish taco. Taco was only $2.00!! Can you believe it?
It is one of the best restaurant so far. You won't be disappointed.
My friend had blue burger and it was amazing too. For gluten free people, ask them not to serve buns.

Tteokbokki(떡볶이; SPICY RICECAKE )

One day a friend of mine asked me about tteokokki, which is one of my favorite Korean food. We watched some Youtube videos and talked about how the recipe of tteokokki is different in different regions. I have at least five to ten different recipes to make this myself. Once he mentioned about this, I started to think about a lot about it and finally I made one for lunch. I don't usually make it too spicy since I don't like it( can you believe it? I am a Korea and I don't like spicy food!) It was yummy and guess what? It is gluten free!

Here is the recipe:
1 tablespoon Korean chili paste
1 tablespoon Gluten free soy sauce
2 teaspoon Honey
1/2 teaspoon Sesame oil
a bit of Sesame seed

15 Rice cake
- you can get it any Asian store
2 Carrot
1/2 Zucchini
A bit of green onion
2 Garlic

1)Leave rice cake in water about half an hour. This make the rice cake tender.
2)Drain the water.
3)Chop vegetables and mince garlic.
4)Mix all the seasoning ingredient and stir it in a ball.
5)On frying pan, put a puddle of oil and sauté garlic.
6)Add rice cake and vegetables.
7)Add the sauce and mix the ingredient well.
8)Enjoy the meal!

Zion National Park

People often ask me what made me start gluten free diet. I started last December when my herbal doctor recommended because of my immune system disorder. He said that wheat powder and sugar can cause immune system disorder to some people. It did not sound convincing at first, but I feel so much better without those two.

It is not too hard to be on gluten free diet at home, but becomes rather challenging when you are traveling. I went to see my dear friend Kat in South Utah this summer. Unfortunately, I did not take any picture of food since I was too excited to see my friend after 6 years!!!!

I am uploading beautiful pictures of Zion Park though. I am not really nature kind of person, but this national park was certainly amazing. It is $25 for a vehicle or $12 per person. If you pay $80, you can buy a seasonal national park ticket that you can go any national park with this in US. I am thinking to do this with my family for my dad's 70th birthday in two years. Once you get in the park, you can take a shuttle and get on and off as you like. Many people ride bicycles and hike, but well, as I said, I am not really nature person. I was very close to the shuttle.

OK, let's talk about food. I went In-N-Out and got a protein wrap. They use lettuce instead of bun. I like vegetables over buns anyways. I went a restaurant called "Oscar's Cafe" in Springdale on the way to the park. At first, I thought that it was a Korean restaurant because of its sign. Once I got closer, I realized it was three different colors of chillies! Anyway, I ordered Pesto Quesadilla. I asked the waiter if the chef could cook with corn tortilla instead of flour and yes he did. Result? It was delicious!

South Indian Cuisine

A lot of Asian foods do not have wheat. Southern Indian foods are one of those that gluten free folks can enjoy. I went to "Udupi Palace" in Berkeley. The restaurant serves very authentic South Indian food. Dosa- big crepe like- is made of chickpeas and lentil flour. You eat the dosa with little side dishes such as coconut curry, potatoes and some other dishes I do not know( but delicious!) They also gave me a donut that is made of lentil and a rice cake(well, that was what I thought that was). If you don't know what to order, get their combination menu and you will be able to taste different ones at once.

French Belgian Food for Dinner?

Sometimes people ask me if it is hard to be on gluten free diet and say that they can never do that. Well, I did not think I could do it either. Whenever I go to restaurants, and they serve you fresh baked bread, the smell almost kills me. Then, I start to think about how much I feel better without having those bread- no stomachache!

I was looking for a nice dinner in San Francisco and my friend found this French Belgian restaurant " Plouf". It is located in the financial district in downtown San Francisco. If you are a seafood and wine lover, you will like this place a lot! They have different styles of mussel dishes. You can also order a course meal and it comes with a choice of soup/salad, main course- your choice of mussel dish and desert. I had clam chowder for soup. I picked more traditional one- butter and garlic and West Coast Style Cheesecake for desert. I personally like the west style one because it was a lot lighter. If you are not a big fan of cheesecake, what about Crème brûlée?
Full course meal is $29 for a person.

Casserole House in Oakland

Traditional Korean foods have almost no gluten. They mostly use mung and soy beans and rice powder. I went to a Korean restaurant celled Casserole House in Oakland. Those casseroles do not have any gluten unless you order dumpling casserole(So, don't order that!). I could eat and enjoy everything in the restaurant except for Pa-jeon, which is vegetable pancake. I ordered seafood one and it was a bit spicy but not too bad.
The information for the restaurant is

gluten free diet? We still have cheesecakes!!!!

I was really sad when I realized that I had to be on gluten diet. I could not eat all the cakes I love! Then, I found out that cheesecakes do not have any gluten in it unless you eat the crust part of it. So, I enjoy cheesecake every once in a while. Why not? This is Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory.

Jambalaya from Yard House

I have a new challenge this year- gluten free diet. I don't know hot this blog will go, but I post some restaurants and foods for people who are on gluten free diet. This photo is from Yard House in Roseville, California. If you are a big beer drinker, this restaurant is a place to go, but also they have some good foods for gluten free diet folks. I had Jambalaya with brown rice. You can also have white rice or spaghetti noodle with it.
